Neuron 5000 and Support for the 1250 kbps data rate with a 10 MHz System Clock |

Date

Products Affected
Neuron 5000
Summary
Echelon has identified the following issue when using an external TP 1250 transceiver with the Neuron 5000 product with a 10 MHz system clock. The clock derivations for the communications port require that the system clock rate to be at least 16x the data rate or higher. It follows that a 10 MHz system clock will support 10MHz / 16 = 0.625 Mbps (625 kbps) communication at best.
Solution
Customers are advised to run their System Clock at 20 MHz or higher (up to a maximum of 80 MHz) to achieve the 1250 kbps data rate. Echelon can confirm that the 1250 kbps data rate combination has been tested with the higher system clock rates up to the maximum clock rate of 80 MHz that is supported by the Neuron 5000 product. Echelon has seen no issues with these clock rates and the products work as expected.
Echelon believes that the testing and validation accomplished is comprehensive and supports the ongoing quality requirements for a product of this nature.
