Daylight Savings Time (DST) update for the i.LON® Internet Server product family |
---|
Date
February 28, 2007
Products Affected
The i.LON 100 Internet Server product family, the i.LON600 LonWorks/IP Server, the i.LON1000 Internet Server
Summary
New worldwide legislation has been adopted recently which affects Daylight Saving Time (DST) start and end dates. These changes mean that the time and date of your i.LON internet servers based in the regions listed below will not automatically adjust as they have in the past. This can lead to undesired results when accuracy of the system time is required. Examples of such cases include but are not limited to the use of data logger or scheduler functions.

This year, the United States begins its DST observance in March. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that DST will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. In 2007, the start and stop dates will be March 11 and November 4, respectively. These dates are different from previous DST start and stop dates. Last year, for example, the dates were the first Sunday in April (April 2, 2006) and the last Sunday in October (October 29, 2006).
Solution
For the i.LON100 customers, to address this issue, Echelon has posted the i.LON 100 e3 Service Pack 2 Update 4 and the i.LON 100 e2 Service Pack 1 Update 3 on its website, at http://www.echelon.com/support/downloads/, for customers to download. Included in the Service Pack are detailed instructions on how to install and update the i.LON 100 Internet Server.
Echelon highly recommends customers who are using IP-852 routing (i.LON100 e3 with IP-852 router license activated, i.LON600, and i.LON1000) to adjust the DST setting by performing the following steps, although the i.LON 600 and i.LON1000 customers do not need to get an update from Echelon nor need to update their i.LONs for the normal operation of the network:
- Update the host PC using the Microsoft time zone fix. See Microsoft website for detail at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928388 It does not matter whether or not your configuration server is running in this step.
- Run the configuration server if it is not already running. From the configuration server’s device tree view, right click on the i.LON device and select “Device Properties” to go to the i.LON’s Device Property window, and then go to “i.LON Time Zone” tab to set it. If the time zone does not appear to be set, simply select the correct time zone. If the time zone is already set, temporarily select a different time zone (any one), then reselect the correct time zone. This should cause the Apply button to become active. Click OK or Apply to update the device.
Note that the i.LON 10 is not affected by this issue.
