401 – LonWorks® Device Development

This course, for engineers developing their first LonWorks® control networking device, focuses extensively on designing devices that meet LonMark® interoperability guidelines. You'll practice designing, debugging, and testing new LonWorks devices using the Neuron® C programming language and Echelon's device and control network development tools.

Course Objectives

In this course, you'll design and develop interoperable, configurable LonWorks control networks devices, which involves:

  • Using NodeBuilder tools and wizards
  • Designing device interfaces
  • Writing Neuron C programs to enable device functionality  
  • Implementing LonMark objects and functional profiles
  • Adding configuration properties to a device
  • Creating device resource files
  • Architecting device hardware
  • Editing, testing, and debugging device and network applications with device and network development tools
  • Installing and commissioning the LonWorks devices into a functioning LonWorks control network
  • Creating a simple device plug-in

Lecture and Hands-on Lab

The course is offered in a state-of-the-art classroom containing the latest LonWorks device design tools. Throughout this course you'll participate in extensive laboratory work, exercises, review sessions, and group discussion. You'll develop working LonWorks control network devices, culminating in a group control network design and installation project.
