4           Requirements

4.1      Hardware Requirements

The following are minimum requirements for the computer running the i.LON SmartServer software:

·        Pentium III 1.3 GHz or faster (Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or faster if running Echelon Enterprise Services).

·        768 MB RAM minimum (1 GB if running Echelon Enterprise Services).

·        100 MB free hard disk space (270 MB if running Echelon Enterprise Services).

·        DVD-ROM drive.

·        Super VGA (1024 × 768) or higher-resolution display with 256 colors.

·        Mouse or compatible pointing device.

The memory required is affected by the number of plug-ins, LNS applications, and other Windows applications that are running simultaneously.  The memory required is also higher if you are running Windows Vista.  More than 1 GB may be required if you are running multiple plug-ins and applications or are using Windows Vista.

4.2      Software Requirements

The following are minimum software requirements for computers running the i.LON SmartServer software:

·       Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows XP.  Install the latest service pack available from Microsoft for your version of Windows.

·       Minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 with large or small fonts; or 800x600 with small fonts only.

·       If you are using the LonMaker Integration Tool, LonMaker 3.1 with Service Pack 3, Update 1 or newer is required.

·       If you are using an LNS tool other than the LonMaker Integration Tool and you are not using the Echelon Enterprise Services, then LNS 3, Service Pack 8, Update 2 or newer is required.

·       If you are running Echelon Enterprise Services SR2A on your computer, LNS Turbo Server Release 3.24 or later is required.  If you are running earlier versions of Echelon Enterprise Services (Echelon Enterprise Services Release 4 or 4.01 [SR1]), LNS Turbo Server Release 3.20 or later is required.

·       Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or newer.  The SmartServer Web pages support Internet Explorer 6; however, there may be a significant delay when loading the SmartServer Web pages if the navigation pane contains more than 2,000 entries.  You can install Internet Explorer 7 from the i.LON SmartServer DVD to optimize the performance of the SmartServer Web pages.

·       Terminal emulator such as Windows HyperTerminal.  If you are using Windows Vista, you must install a terminal emulation application on your computer since Windows HyperTerminal is not included with Windows Vista.  You can license Windows HyperTerminal from Hilgraeve; install puTTy, which is included on the root directory of the i.LON SmartServer DVD and the i.LON SmartServer Programming Tools DVD; or download and install another free terminal emulator to your computer.

5           Installing Release 4.02

You can install i.LON SmartServer Service Release 2A (Release 4.02), you can upgrade i.LON SmartServer Release 4 or Release 4.01 to Release 4.02, or you can modify or repair SmartServer products upgraded from Service Release 2 to Service Release 2A.  If you are using an LNS Server, you can also upgrade to LNS Service Pack 4A by installing the service pack over any earlier version of the LNS Turbo Server, including an LNS Turbo Server with Service Pack 4 installed.

If you have already installed i.LON SmartServer Service Pack 2 or Service Release 2 (Release 4.02.054), you do not have to reinstall or upgrade the i.LON SmartServer Enterprise Services.

5.1      Installing or Upgrading to Release 4.02

You can install Service Release 2A or you can upgrade i.LON SmartServer Release 4 or Release 4.01 to Release 4.02 by installing i.LON SmartServer Service Release 2A or Service Pack 2A.  Service Pack 2A is available as a free download at www.echelon.com/ilon.  To install Release 4.02 or upgrade a Release 4 or 4.01 installation to Release 4.02, follow these steps:

1.     If you are installing from the Echelon i.LON SmartServer SR2A DVD, insert the DVD into your DVD drive.  If your computer does not have a DVD drive, insert the Echelon i.LON SmartServer SR2A DVD on a network accessible computer that has a DVD drive and copy the files on the DVD to shared network drive.  If the i.LON SmartServer SR2A setup application does not launch immediately, open the setup.exe file on the root directory of the Echelon i.LON SmartServer SR2A DVD.  The i.LON SmartServer SR2A setup application main menu appears.

2.     To install i.LON SmartServer Service Pack 2A, download the service pack from www.echelon.com/ilon and store the service pack file in a local folder on your computer.  Open the service pack file and then click the Unzip button in the next dialog.  The i.LON SmartServer SP2A setup application main menu appears.

3.     Click Install Products.  The Install Products dialog appears.

4.     Click Echelon i.LON SmartServer SR2A Software.  The Echelon i.LON SmartServer SR2A Software installer appears.

5.     Follow the steps of the installation wizard.  The installation will automatically upgrade the existing Echelon i.LON SmartServer Software Release 4 or Release 4.01 installation on your computer to Echelon i.LON SmartServer Software Service Release 2A (Release 4.02).

6.     Open the i.LON SmartServer images folder.  To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Echelon i.LON SmartServer Software, and the select i.LON SmartServer Images Folder.  Alternatively, you can browse to the file path of the i.LON SmartServer image folder, which is iLon100\images\iLon100 4.02 in your LonWorks folder.

7.     Copy the following folders and files in the iLon100\images\iLon100 4.02 folder on your computer to the root directory of the SmartServer flash disk: lonWorks, modules, web, and iLonSystem.

Note: Do not copy the config folder or the WebParams.dat file in the iLon100\images\iLon100 4.02 directory to your SmartServer.  This prevents the following:

·       Deletion of network configuration data if you did not change the name of the network from the default Net.

·       Duplication of network configuration data if you are running the SmartServer in Standalone mode.

·       Overwriting the root/config/systemhealth.conf file, which determines how the SmartServer’s system health is monitored.

·       Overwriting the root/config/software/lspa.xml file, which contains the current LonScanner Protocol Analyzer settings that you may have specified in the Setup – Security Web page.

·       Overwriting any pre-defined type translator rule XML files in the root/config/software/translatorRules folder that you may have modified

·       Overwriting any pre-defined template XML files in the root/config/template folder that you may have modified.

·       Overwriting any Web page restrictions you may have created with the i.LON Web Server Security and Parameters program.

8.     Copy the startup.scr file in the iLon100\images\iLon100 4.02\config folder on your computer to the root/config directory of the SmartServer flash disk.

9.     Copy the following files from the backup to the SmartServer flask disk, if necessary:

·       web/index.htm (if you modified the SmartServer home page or added a link to your custom SmartServer Web pages to it.

·       web/images/[app/ || tree/]<image>.gif (if you wrote over any of the SmartServer’s built-in images, which is not supported).

10.  Reboot your SmartServer using the SmartServer Web pages or the SmartServer console application.

·       To reboot your SmartServer using the SmartServer Web pages, right‑click the local SmartServer, point to Setup, and then click Reboot on the shortcut menu.  The Setup – Reboot dialog opens.  Click Reboot to start the reboot.

·       To reboot your SmartServer using the SmartServer console application, enter the reboot command.
